The Book of the Hidden One
Chapter One
1. And it was given to the daughter of Khoreg and Hecate to be the guardian of the rift in the void.
2. She rejoiced in this task for she had had neither purpose nor domain.
3. And she took the name Kavin. which means “the hidden one”. So that none might use her true name against her a spell was made that took it from the memories of all creatures, god or mortal, save only her mother.
4. And the gods did party and mortals lived their brief lives.
5. Then the Hidden One built a tower of gossamer and adamant and wove around it the echoes of silence and the shadow behind the stars.
6. Unseen she sat at its summit and watched the void but her nets reached far into the night.
7. Truly she is the Hidden One, Kavia, Goddess of those who wait in the darkness and war in the silence
8. And her symbols two stars above a net.
9. The God of Assassins objected to her status but Khoreg and Khorne, Laurellia and Hecate, Bane and Bacchus spoke with him and his objections ceased.
Chapter Two
1. Hunger and thirst came upon the Hidden One but she would not desert the tower.
2. But she sent forth her will and mortals came to her and called themselves Guardians of All and The Watchers in the Dark They were the only church of the hidden one.
3. And these guardians took it upon themselves to protect all that they perceived that Kavia loved.
4 Khoreg was wroth at being protected from the hazards of war. Some attempted to protect Bane from demons and Hecate from creatures of dark magic and perished swiftly (but messily).
5. Kavia then commanded her followers only to guard the gate of the void.
Chapter Three
1. With the void protected the Hidden One was free to get a decent meal and to visit her kin.
2. And she took the form of a demon and visited her brother in the pits of Hell.
3. She drank deeply with her brother and found that she could be as a friend to the demons.
4. Thence she went to the fortress of Khoreg and again drank deeply.
5. And she found that the warrior and deathless ones were good friends too.
6. On returning to her own tower her servants cried unto her “Nothing’s happening. We’re bored!”
7. And Kavia was wrath and spoke unto them saying “Just because nothing is happening now doesn’t mean that it wont! Stop whinging. keep looking.”
8. The hidden one returned to Hecate her mother. She watched the places of magic and understood at last some of what her mother had been trying to teach her.
9. Then she saw that to use the skills of both her parents would give her and her followers greater power.
10. Some of her followers she sent to Khoreg, others to Bane and some to Hecate that each might learn the skills they knew least and could use spells or blades as the need arose.
Chapter Four
1. And all the hidden ones thoughts were turned to the void and her followers had little shelter or divine protection in the harsh world.
2. They beseeched her. “Help us Kavia, help us O hidden one.”
3. So she sought out those gods who were her friends and allies and said “You have set me to watch the void and I cannot turn my mind from this task. Care for my followers and they will worship you as well. As I need them still when I call watch their backs as I watch yours.
4. Bane, Khoreg. Laurellia and Bacchus all agreed but Khorne and Hecate did not.
5. “That is something” said Kavia, At least there is some shelter in the world for them.
6. And so she and her worshippers were content.
7. Though some complained still that there was little to watch.
Chapter Five
1. The Hidden One watched as the years passed and the children of she who had been the Lady Chastity were born and Kavia was no longer among the youngest.
2. And as she watched a voice whispered as if in her mind, saying, “This must be so boring, all this time with nothing happening, leave your tower and take your people out for a drink.”
3. But the Hidden One replied “We are here because the gods rely on us to be so. It is our duty.”
4. “Duty is the most important thing.”
5. “So get stuffed.”
6 And all the voices of the lost cried out from the void. ‘Then we will call a countless horde out of the void and they will smite you and east you from your tower and into the void.”
7 “Not before I raise the alarm you won’t” mocked Kavia. and the voices fled.
8 But the void was no longer silent as the voices could be heard calling and tempting any who would listen.
9 When the Hidden One was not in the tower things crawled out of the void, but her followers sallied forth and destroyed them.
10. On Kavia’s return her followers told her what they had done and she was pleased saying
11. “As I told you attack is often the best defence, surprise attack particularly so.”
Chapter Six
1. In the bitter winter of the gods Khoreg came to the tower of the Hidden One.
2. For the gods had made a new world and would cast the whole of the old world into the void.
3. And he strode into the very edge of the void and the voices of the lost howled about him.
4. And Khoreg took his sword and cut the void itself that the winds of limbo might blow free and that the old world might be cast out.
5. But the sword turned in his hand and opened the gate of hell and demons infected both the new world and the old.
6. Khoreg broke the sword and named it Traitor
7. And Kavia turned to some of her followers who cowered from the terrors that they had seen and said. “Well you wanted something to happen.”
8. The gate of Hell was sealed again with a gate forged by the dwarves and enchanted by Bane.
9. But the rift in the void could not quite be closed.
10. And the Hidden One watched as mortals passed where gods would not go.
Chapter Seven
1. To this day the Hidden One watches the rift and the void.
2. Did she not these words and all the world would be destroyed.
3. She waits and watches to warn the other gods. The may not all heed her warnings but it is her duty to try.
4. Her gaze is keen and sees through shadow and through disguises. She is at ways alert and drinks sparingly of the works of Bacchus.
5. Unless it is her day off.
6. Her followers are of all races, even the most inimical. Which ever god or goddess may protect them they answer to the Hidden Ones call.
7. For they are the Guardians and the Watchers in the Dark and hold by their duty before all else.
8. Their names are known to the other gods but they are not punished and they are accepted into the churches.
9. But when they rise in the churches of other gods, which they do for they are dutiful, some worshipers stand against them.
10. Thus the people of the Hidden One stay hidden, as their Goddess advised.
11. “What they don’t know won’t hurt us”
