Prior to FoG I mainly wargamed with DBM. This page is a legacy collection of a number of DBM resources as a record of the time I spent enjoying those rules. There is a series of battle reports and a number of army lists. The army lists are pretty much all DBM v3.0 vintage. It is unlikely that these will be added to.

Army Lists

pontic450apwithbd.txt - is a 450AP army, post 84BC with imitation legionarii.

pontic450ap.txt - as above but pre 84BC with pikes and 4 scythed chariots. Fun.

doubles500ap.txt - the army I used with Pete Rushton at the SOA doubles at Preston in 2000.

pontic400apwithbd.txt - used in a DBM v3.0 trial game where it surprisingly beat Simon Hall's Ancient British!

Beja

beja1.txt - The first.

bejaalternative.txt - next.

beja2.txt - next.

beja3.txt - another.

beja4.txt - and another.

beja5.txt - and another.

beja6.txt - yet another.

beja7.txt - the latest, but is it the last?

lorenzosbeja - The list used by Italian player Lorenzo Mele - he's very good but I don't like the list myself.

Late Imperial Roman

lir450ap.txt - pre 354AD eastern army.

theodosian500ap.txt - an army based on  the army of Theodosios circa 390AD.

lir400AP.txt - a 400AP army, as used to good effect  by Graham Briggs.

lir400apwithart.txt - a 400AP army based  on the above with Art(F) as well.

The next series of lists trace my development of the above army to the armies  used at the 2002 IWF and BHGS Challenge:

LIR400APv2.txt

LIR400APwithArt(F)v2.txt

LIR400APwithArt(F)v3.txt

LIR400APwithArt(F)v4.txt

LIR400APwithArt(F)v4a.txt

LIR400APIWFList2.txt - list 2 for the  IWF

LIR400APBHGSList1.txt - revised list 1 used at the BHGS Challenge

LIR400APBHGSList1v2.txt - a slightly revised version of the above

lir400apv7.txt - another version of the above with a better command structure that doesn't put the C-in-C's command in so  much risk

lir400apv8.txt - a Reigate Patrician version of the Late Roman army

And a 500AP doubles version:

LIR500APfordoubles.txt

lir500apv2.txt - the Colchester 2002 version.

Northern Dynasties Chinese

ndc400ap.txt - a 400 AP army with the infantry as Sp.

ndcwithbd400ap.txt - a version with some Bd instead of all Sp.

ndc400apv3.txt - an updated version of the v2  army above.

Patrician Roman

reigatepatrician.txt - a very successful version of the army as used by a number of Reigate players.

400appatsyvarient.txt - a new Patrician, is it any good?

400appatsyvarientv2.txt - a different version of the above.

patricianv2.txt - yet another new version.

srp2003.txt - the latest Reigate version. It's a goody.

Central Asian Turkish

gokturk.txt - is a 400AP Turkish army, 4 commands with City State ally.

uighur3command.txt - is a 400AP Uighur army, 3 commands lots of infantry.

uighur.txt - is a 400AP Uighur army, 4 commands  with Turkish ally. Better than the above Uighur list.

gokturk500ap.txt - a 500AP army with a City  State ally with Kn(F).

uighurforepsomdoubles.txt - a 500AP doubles army used at Epsom in 2001, Uighur with Tibetan allies.

uighur400apwithtibetans.txt - a 400AP version of the above.

uighur300ap.txt - a 300AP test army.

uighur400apwithturks.txt - a 400AP version with Turks instead of Tibetans, probably a good alternative as the LH(S) can surprise opponents.

Abbasid

abbasidanticv.txt - an Abbasid army designed  to fight armies based on Cv, 400AP.

abbasidantikn.txt - as above but based on fighting Kn and/or foot, 400AP.

dynasticbedouin400apanticv.txt - a Regular 400AP army based on fighting Cv.

dynasticbedouin400apantikn.txt - a Regular 400AP army for fighting Kn, including some Bw(X)/(O).

bedouin400ap1.txt - an irregular version  from Ethan Zorick. Pretty effective for him at the 2000 IWF - he beat my Ottomans :-(

bedouin400ap2.txt - variant on above.

bedouin400ap3.txt - and another variant.

dynastcbedouin500ap.txt - a 500AP variant,  although the army does not work so well at this AP value.

dynasticbedouinforbritcon - 400AP army used at Britcon 2002, I think this is an excellent version.

dynasticbedouinnoabid.txt - a variant that does not use the 'Abid.

Ghaznavid

ghaznavid400apanticv.txt - a 400AP army based on fighting Cv.

ghaznavid400apantikn.txt - a 400AP army for fighting Kn, but has Irr generals.

ghaznavidfordoubles.txt - a 500AP army  for the SOA doubles with Hindu Indian ally.

ghaznavidforworlds.txt - 400AP mostly  mounted army used by Pete Reilly at the World Team Championships, where our team - The Khoregate Expeditionary Force - came 12th. It's insanely small.

ghaznavidforleedsdoubles02.txt - 500AP army for the Leeds round of the 2002 SOA doubles. It's quite small but  with the Hindu ally is quite tough.

Seljuq Turkish

seljuqwithghurids450ap.txt - is  a 450AP Sultanate of Merv army 1129AD to 1141AD.

seljuqwithghurids500ap.txt - is  as above but 500AP.

 seljuq400ap.txt - the list I used quite successfully at Campaign 2003, 400AP.

Ghurid

ghurid500ap.txt - is a 500AP army in 3 commands.

ghurid400ap.txt - the same in 400AP.

ghurid500apmaxcav.txt - is a 500AP army with as much mounted as I could fit.

ghurid450apcomp.txt - an army I took to a competition. 2 draws due to lack of time to finish both games.

ghurid400apv2.txt - a v2.0 army list 400AP army. The list had no changes so the above are still OK.

ghurid400apv3.txt - the best 400AP version I've come up with. May not say much though.

Ottoman Turkish

ottomanwithserbs.txt - a 400AP army including  a Serbian ally.

ottoman.txt - a 400AP army with no allies.

ottoman500AP.txt - a 500AP army with Serbs.

Sundry Lists

hammyshuns400ap.txt - the Hun army used by James Hamilton at the World Team Championships as part of The Khoregate Expeditionary Force. I've tried it and didn't like it but Hammy  is pretty successful with it.

alexandrian400ap.txt - the Alexandrian army I took to Roll Call 2000. I came 8th from 30ish. If I  used it again I might swap the Pk to Ax, and consider the Irr Sp(O) being Reg Sp(I) - or dropping all the Sp, take the Hypaspists as Ax(S) and get even more Thracians and/or converted Pk.

latersargonid400ap.txt - a test of the v2 Later Sargonid list, never actually used. I think it's better  with a 10 LH(F) Skythian ally.

lydian300ap.txt - Lydian produced for a quick v3.0 test game. I think the army has potential in it's regular guise - especially for 500AP doubles.

lydian300apwithsp.txt - a variation on above.

neohittite400ap.txt - Neo-Hittite, an army I keep looking at, despite it's obvious flaws.

andalusian400ap.txt - Andalusian; another list I made up to see what it looked like. I'm unlikely to use it as I think Murabit Fanatic Berber would do it better.

earlyhu385ap.txt - Esarly Hu; this is a list I checked for an Oz competition. I thought it looked interesting so kept a copy.

laterhungarian400ap.txt - one of my many unsuccessful attempts to come up with a 400AP Later Hungarian  list I like.

laterhungarian400apv2.txt - yet another failure on the trail of a Later Hungarian.

graecobactrian400ap.txt - Graeco-Bactrian; yet another army I keep looking for a good list for. Is this it?

hatrene.txt - Hatrene from the Arabo-Aramean list, my attempt at finding a Bw based army  to try out the Oz bowmeister theory.

serbianfordoubles.txt - A Serbian Empire army we took to the Leeds round of the SOA doubles, and did badly with.

serbian400ap.txt - a smaller version of the above.

serbian400apv2.txt - a revised 400AP list with 2 allies. Could be fun or frustrating.

sicilian400ap.txt - my first try at a Sicilian list as I try and find a Book 4 Kn based army I like.

sicilian400apv2.txt - the next iteration of the Sicilian army, only slightly different.

sicilian400apv3.txt - another one.

sicilian400apv4.txt - and another.

earlybyzantine.txt - a reasonable attempt to get a useable army from this difficult list, it's one of those you think should have a great army in it but it never quite works  out.

lorenzoseearlybyzantine.txt - top Italian player  Lorenzo Mele's version. Did well at Britcon 2002.

earlycarthaginian500ap.txt - A doubles army including a Numidian ally, I thought it worked pretty well in a comp where only armies from book 1 were allowed.

earlycarthaginian400ap.txt - a 400AP version worked out from the above.

earlycarthaginian400apv2.txt - a second version of the above.

earlycarthaginian400apv3.txt - a third iteration.

hsiungnu300ap.txt - a 300AP test army.

hsiungnu400ap.txt - a 400AP version, however, I think better structures can be developed than this.

khmer.txt - 400AP army used with some success at Warfare 2002.

kushan500apdoubles.txt - a doubles army used by myself and Hammy in 2000 at Reigate.

kushan400ap.txt - a 400AP version of the above. There are better versions out there.

middleassyrian.txt - a 500AP doubles army.

neoassyrian.txt - a 400AP army used at Campaign 2002 where we came 2nd in the 1st division.

middleassyrian500ap2003.txt - Army used at the SOA Doubles at Loughborogh in 2003.

palmyran500ap.txt - a doubles army that didn't do too bad in 2001.

palmyran500ap2002.txt - a revised version of above that didn't do so well.

portuguese400ap.txt - a stab at a Medieval Portuguese.

sassanid500ap.txt - a pretty bad Sassanid army.

syrian.txt - a 400AP army for a small theme to be run by John Graham-Leigh.

syrianv2.txt - a revised version of the above for the follow up competition.

welshforwarfare.txt - the army I used at Warfare 2001.

khazar.txt - a first stab at a Khazar army.

khazar2.txt - a revised version of the above.

khitan.txt - the only good version of this list I've seen. It's Matt Heywoods.

romanianfrank.txt - Kn(S) nutters are us. May try it one day.

lpia.txt - a trial 400AP Later Pre-Islamic Arab army.

lpiaberserker.txt - a 300AP version used at Roll Call 2003. Did badly but could easily have done  much better IMO.
