Sha-t'o Turkish

 Book 3, List 42

Following on from the Central Asian Turkish this was the next morph adding to the Turkish figures Chinese from the Han army; maybe not too accurate but makes a suitable morph. I was attracted to this particular army by the combination of good Cv and LH aided by a reasonable infantry force all with the option of Reg generals if required.

The list is basically split into three different parts of which only the first does not have the regular option. This first section is the basic Turkish option which can only just stretch to a 400AP army and offers nothing special in comparison to other similar armies. The second section adds a good sized infantry contingent to the army made up of mainly Bw and Sp, mainly regular but with some irregular. The downside of this section is the compulsory Reg Cv(I), a truly awful troop type. It also has a very useful half dozen swordsmen who can be Bd(I) or, more likely, (F). The last section roughly doubles the numbers of Chinese infantry, both in minima and maxima, and reduces the minima on the Turkish horse from 7 Cv and 7 LH to 5 of each.

The combination of good foot and excellent horse give the cavalry something to manoeuvre round which many of these nomad armies cannot do. It also allows the army to match up to those opponents with significant infantry contingents which is also a problem for other basically horse armies without Kn. The regular option makes the army very powerful for the usual reasons and by having the infantry it allows some cheaper troops to bulk out numbers whilst still being very effective in themselves.

As may be expected the army is not so good in broken terrain. It can cope with some bad terrain due to the numerous Ps(O), and the Bd(F) can always fight pretty well in this terrain as an option.
